Vintage watches fever~~

I have been collecting vintage since 1988. I remember very clearly that during that time, majority of the collectors are focusing on collecting the boysize watches, the Rolex bubbleback, Prince, chronograph, reverso, etc. Most collector will only collect pre 1960s watches are these watches are more then 30 years old. At that time, everyone looked down on the sports model as these were not "vintage enough".

However, the trend now tends to be towards the sports models. Perhaps, the sporst watches have finally managed to gracefully age with time.. more then 30 years old. My latest Rolex 5513 is >44years old..vintage enough i guess.

Anyway, looking and wearing these watches always give me the joy!

Read this interesting web with regards to Early Rolex sub from Singapore...:

Nice 5513 gilt dial

My renewed interest in vintage watch was due to my ex-colleague Dominic. He is on the round the world trip right now.

Keep in touch if you happen to visit my blog..Enjoy!

Rolex 5513 gilt dial ~~ Arrived!!! : )

I remember in 22 July 2008, I have set myself a wish lists targets consisting of :

1) Rolex GMT 1675 (GMT after Ref 6542)

2) Rolex Submariner with date 1680
3) Rolex Submariner without date 5513

After 15 months of hunting and and waiting, my new found Rolex 5513 gilt dial has finally arrived.

The watch has been certified by the Rolex center Hong Kong to be genuine. Basing on the serial nos 177, 28XX, the estimated date should be between 1964-65. about 44 years old now!~~~ Even though the gilt dial has aged, I prefer it versus those re-conditioned dial as 44 years old should look 44 years old! aged gracefully..

For the submariner series, I have managed to find the 6202 gilt dial (Turn O Graph), 6536 no crown guard James Bond sub, 5513 gilt dial sub and the 1680 Red Submariner.

I used to have the Sea dweller and the Rolex 5010..must try to find them and re-unite the family once again!
